Frequently asked questions
What is respite care?
Respite care provides temporary, short-term support so a family or regular carer can take a break. It can be for a few hours or days.
Is respite care available under Support at Home?
Yes. Respite is part of the Independence support category in the Support at Home program. The program mostly funds in-home respite so family carers can rest. Like all services in the independence category, it attracts a means-tested co-payment of between 5% and 50%, depending on your circumstances.
Can respite care happen at home?
Yes. We provide in-home respite care so your loved one can stay comfortable and settled in familiar surroundings.
How long can respite last?
It can range from a few hours to several weeks, depending on your needs, your funding and the person’s care requirements.
Who provides the care during respite?
Envigor’s qualified local carers and nurses. They are people experienced in personal care, clinical support and companionship.
Can I book respite regularly?
Yes. Many families schedule regular respite (for example, one day a week) to maintain balance and consistency.
Is respite available for clients with dementia or complex needs?
Yes. Our team includes dementia-trained carers and registered nurses who can provide clinical oversight and personalised support.
How far in advance do I need to book?
We recommend giving as much notice as possible, but we’ll always do our best to help in urgent or unexpected situations.
