Frequently asked questions
Is home safety support available under Support at Home?
Yes, through the Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (AT-HM) scheme, a dedicated stream separate from your ongoing services. AT-HM has funding tiers (low, medium, high – up to $15,000) and typically requires a qualified health professional, sourced by Envigor, to prescribe home modifications. Support at Home participants could be required to provide co-contributions toward their assistive technology or home modifications.
Do I need an assessment for rails or ramps?
Often, yes. An occupational therapist (or similar) will prescribe the safest option for your home and needs; all home modifications must be prescribed.
Do home safety and modifications funds come out of my regular care budget?
No. Assistive technology and home modifications are funded separately to your ongoing Support at Home services, so you don’t have to “save up” your service budget to access equipment or modifications. But you need to be assessed as requiring the home modifications to receive the funding.
Can you organise installation and trades?
Yes. We coordinate assessors, source approved items and manage qualified local trades so the work is done safely and properly.
What are the funding tiers for assistive technology and home modifications?
There are three funding tiers for assistive technology and home modifications under the Support at Home program:
- Low – $500
- Medium – $2000
- High – up to $15,000
You will have 12 months to use the funding.
More funding may be available if you’re prescribed needs exceed the funding limits.
