Could you be missing out on home care funding?

If you are starting to find it harder to do all the things you used to do around the home, it’s possible you could be missing out on some home care funding that could help you remain living independently in your own home.

When it comes to getting home care, many people think about higher-end nursing care and personal care, but it’s worth knowing that if you are over 65 and starting to find things more difficult around the home then you could be eligible for home care package funding.

There are four levels of home care packages from Level 1 for basic care needs up to Level 4 for high-level care. Each level attracts a different amount of funding:

Level 1 – Basic care needs – approximately $8,750 a year
Level 2 – Low care needs – approximately $15,250 a year
Level 3 – Intermediate care needs – approximately $33,500 a year
Level 4 – High care needs – approximately $50,750 a year

What could home care funding help you with

Getting help at home doesn’t mean you can’t keep living an active and independent life, in fact in many ways it can help you maintain this lifestyle for as long as possible.

According to My Aged Care, you may be eligible to receive services such as:

  • Transport
  • Home modifications, such as handrails or ramps
  • Meal preparation
  • Household jobs such as cleaning and gardening
  • Social activities
  • Allied health, including physiotherapy and nursing
  • Personal care

How do I get assessed for a home care package?

If you are considering accessing home care, Envigor can help guide you through the My Aged Care process to check your eligibility for an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) assessment.

What is the waiting period for a home care package?

After you have been assessed as being eligible, how long it takes to get a Home Care Package depends on what package level you are eligible for.

The expected wait time for approved Home Care Package levels to become available is:

Level 1 – 3-6 months
Level 2 – 12+ months
Level 3 – 12+ months
Level 4 – 12+ months

While it can appear daunting, the waiting list is another reason to act now to start the process to access the funding you may be eligible for.

Will I need to pay for home care services?

Home care packages are funded by the Australian Government, but you are expected to help contribute to your care costs. The amount you pay differs depending on your household income and assets. You will need to complete a formal income and assets assessment as part of the application process.

How do I choose a home care provider?

Once you get offered a home care package, it will be up to you to choose a home care provider who suits your needs.

It’s worth shopping around for a home care provider that suits you. Here’s a list of questions to ask to help you decide. Overall, you should be looking for a provider who will listen to your needs and offer services in a way that fits in with your life. You should also pay attention to fees and charges to ensure that the bulk of your home care funding goes towards your care needs rather than administration and case management.
