If you have a smartphone, you have access to a range of apps to keep your health and wellness on track right in your pocket. Here are some favourites.

If you’re a keen walker, MapMyWalk will help you track everything you need to know about your walk, including distance, speed and steps. It also allows you to set goals and discover new walks in your area.

Daily Yoga (available on App Store and Google Play)

This beginner-friendly app offers low-impact and gentle yoga sequences for mind and body. Workouts are focused on toning, weight loss, flexibility, strength, and more. The app is free to use, however paid subscriptions are available if you’re interested in premium features.

Meditation and relaxation

If you’d like to try meditation but don’t know where to begin, Insight Timer is a good choice. The app features 3,000 free meditations, including guided meditations for sleep, stress and anxiety, and happiness.

Health care

Health Direct (available on App Store and Google Play)

Forget Google Doctor, for factual, clinically-reviewed information on health conditions and medications try Health Direct. Supported by the Commonwealth and State governments, Health Direct is a simple, doctor-approved source of health information and advice. It will also help you find local medical practitioners and includes an easy-to-follow Symptom Checker.

Brain training

If you want to keep your brain active, this free app includes a range of specially-developed games to test and strengthen your cognitive abilities. There is a mix of games targeting different areas, including memory tests, puzzles, problem solving, logic and patterns.

Sleep

Sleep Cycle (available on App Store and Google Play)

Sleep Cycle is a sleep tracker and morning alarm, that analyses your sleeping patterns and picks the best time to gently wake you. You can also access your nightly sleep statistics to understand your sleep patterns and see if you’re getting optimal rest.
