A personalised approach can make a big difference.
An elderly client of mine with a real passion for cooking was left feeling very disheartened after being diagnosed with diabetes. Due to medical conditions, she was already having trouble standing in the kitchen for long periods and had therefore been recommended to seek a meal delivery service. She was devastated and it was clear this would really impact on her quality of life and her health and wellbeing.
Instead, we found an alternative. We engaged a dietician, so she was able to be involved in the planning of her meals and have a better understanding of her own dietary needs. We then arranged for a support worker to assist her with regular shopping and meal preparation, which she could also be a part of. This enabled her to maintain her health and independence and continues to have a positive impact on her daily living.
